In Memoriam

Ron Oberman (8/28/1943 - 11/21/2019)

All of us at Wildernessroad.net mourn the passing of Ron Oberman, our great manager, friend, mentor and the man who helped the Road from the days at the Wise Fools Pub (Chicago) to our signing with Columbia and later Warner Reprise. Ron worked with Wilderness Road from its earliest days, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, the Bangles, and many others. We first hooked when he was director of publicity at Mercury Records in Chicago. He leaves behind his beautiful wife Amber Oberman, and the countless folks he helped along the way as a record company legend who added so much to the American music he loved.

Tom Paley
Just heard from Ben Paley- that his father Tom Paley passed away last night (September 30, 2017) in Brighton, England. Tom was a great friend to us, mentor, and the finest of the American traditional players of his generation. Wilderness Road had long honored his name as both influence and friend. He had played and sung with Woody Guthrie, Pete, Penny and Mike Seeger, Cisco Houston, Jack Elliott, and many more and was at the heart of the first New Lost City Ramblers. We remember him now as a vital part of the American folk instrumental and vocal Revival, and as a master musician whose influence on and off- stage remains immense.
